about

This song is sung in the first person of Jazz. It has a little blues mixed with a Jazz feel. Both were born on the Mississippi River and could reasonably be considered cousins. This is a simple arrangement with guitar and vocal but it should be done with a full Jazz Band and a great singer.

B7 A7 G7 E7
I was born on a river down in New Orleans
B7 A7 G7 E7
boat loads of people came here, with their dreams
B7 A7 G7 E7
in a simmering melting pot, I slowly steamed
B7 A7 G7 E7
I was born on a river down in New Orleans

Chorus Amaj7 E9 E7
Improvisational rythym and riffs,
Amaj7 E9 E7
syncopated back beat boppin', jumping off cliffs
A7 B7sus
taking a leave of absence just for a moment
A7 B7sus Ab7 Ab7sus
flying high through they sky then coming back heaven sent.

B7 A7 G7 E7
My baby brother, Blues, was born just up the river
B7 A7 G7 E7
He started out a loner but turned into a giver
B7 A7 G7 E7
We've got our own juice and a working liver
B7 A7 G7 E7
My baby brother, Blues, was born just up the river

Chorus

B7 A7 G7 E7
There's something in the water of that Mighty Mississippi
B7 A7 G7 E7
Navigating swirling currents damn sure gets tricky
B7 A7 G7 E7
Lovely ladies sashay by got me feeling witchie
B7 A7 G7 E7
There's something in the water of that Mighty Mississippi

Chorus (End)
