about

I wrote this song in Arkansas, early 80's. It was first recorded with a great friend up there named Jon Birmingham, who is one of the greatest guitar players I've known. Over the years I lost the mix and had forgotten the song, but after contacting Jon on facebook and speaking over the phone after 30 years, he reminded me of the song. I had written nothing down and remembered the song word for word and even the chord progression, so I wrote it down, recorded the acoustic guitar rythym and picking tracks with a scratch vocal and sent it to Jon, who no lives in North Carolina. He did the same arrangement on the song and sent it back with even more tracks than he could do on the 4 track recorder he had in the early 80's. It is amazing to me that God would not let me forget this song. Hope you like it. New Day is one of my best songs and this recording is my favorite.

lyrics

New Day

Written by Ray Istre, copyright, 1980, Publishing pending ASCAP,

Just before the sunrise, The darkest hour comes
in final desperation to swallow anyone

who's moving without seeing the vision of the kingdom.

There's warfare in the heavens as the twilight arrives
I'll not give up dominion, the darkness sorely cries

but the light is fast approaching, not listening to his lies.

And I see the sun in the sky
and the warm light dries my eyes

Without a vision I would die
without knowing a new day is gonna rise.
